2017 FALL DAY RETREAT
SATURDAY OCTOBER 14 • 8:30 AM – 8:00 PM • SEVEN MOUNTAINS SCOUT CAMP
Step away from the demands of grad school and join us for a day to refresh, to connect deeply with God and others, and to explore with us Lessons For a Lifetime: What God Wants To Teach Us In Grad School About Our Time, Talents, and Treasures.
Have you ever had a time in your life when the circumstances were really difficult or you were facing a challenge but looking back you now see that it was a great time for growth? For example, perhaps you joined a new sport and it was really hard. It forced you to learn new skills and develop the values of hard work and persevering. But looking back, you are so glad you started the sport because you now love the sport. You are also so grateful for the new skills and values it gave you the opportunity to gain. For most of us—if not all of us—grad school is that new sport. It is an environment that has been created and designed to force us to decide and develop how each of us will use and enjoy the three gifts given by God to every person on the planet—the gifts of time, talents, and treasures (or resources). Looking at a passage in Luke 12, we will explore together the perspective God calls us to have regarding our time, talents, and treasures. And we will uncover the promises He makes to each one of us if we will allow Him to develop that perspective in our lives through grad school.
We’ll also spend a good portion of the day spending time with one another relaxing and playing. Or if you prefer to stay indoors, we’ll have Scrabble, Settlers of Cataan, Killer Uno, and lot’s of other fun games to play.
And, of course, there will be yummy food! Light breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.
All that to say, it’s a great day to be refreshed, challenged in your walk with God, and better connected with others in PSCG. We hope you can join us!
MEET OUR SPEAKER: ASHLEY HOLLEMAN
Ashley and his wife Heather have served on Cru staff for 14 years. Ashley garnered a vision and passion for God at work in the lives of graduate students during his grad school days at the University of Michigan. Ashley holds a Master of Chemistry degree and has been devoted to graduate student ministry since 2003. He is currently serving as Cru’s National Director of Graduate Student Ministry. He enjoys woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his daughters. Also of note, Ashley’s top StrengthsFinder Strength is “Futuristic” – how cool!
RETREAT REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee for the retreat helps us cover all of the expenses of the retreat and ensures that we are able to host the retreat each and every year. You can pay the fee at the day of the retreat in cash or with a check made payable to “Cru”.
For singles, the cost is $20. • For couples, the cost is $35
Please do not let the cost of the retreat keep you from coming. If needed, we have scholarship funds available to help. For more information and to request a scholarship, please email Ben Sheng at firstname.lastname@example.org.
GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER ACTIVITY
As an active way of getting to know each other, please bring an item that answers the question “What do you treasure?” It can be a book, a picture, a special item, or anything else that you can think of! Throughout the day, each person will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell us why they chose to bring that object.
Please only bring something that you feel safe bringing to a camp. While people will be in the room all day and will likely have your object in sight, we would hate for you to lose something that you value very deeply and want you to have peace of mind during the day.
If there are any questions, please contact Kate at email@example.com. Looking forward to getting to know you better!
WHAT TO BRING TO THE RETREAT
Bible, journal, and pen • Board games and/or cards to play • Soccer ball, football, frisbee, etc. • A jacket and walking shoes for an optional easy hike. • The object that tells us something about you (see above for more info) • A check made payable to “Cru” to cover the registration fee 🙂 ($20 for singles, $35 for couples)
